ARP Malpractice Coverage FAQs

How do I sign up?

When you sign up for next year’s membership, you can choose the level with malpractice coverage included in the dues.

I already paid my dues for next year. Can I still add coverage?

Yes. There will be an option to add coverage.

Am I covered if I have an issue and then add coverage?

No. You must be covered at the time of the incident and at the time the claim is made.

If I let my membership lapse, am I covered?

No. The policy coincides with the start of membership, which is January 1st.

If I get sued, who pays the legal fees?

Legal fees are covered by the insurer and expenses are deducted from the coverage limits.

If I get sued and the policy has already been used on someone else and the total limits have been reached, am I still covered?

No. The policy is only good for the total limits above. For example, if a suit is settled for $1,000,000 on a single incident, the policy will only cover the first $500,000 minus the legal expenses. The individual will be responsible for additional costs. If there have been multiple claims totaling over the $1,000,000 aggregate limit, no additional coverage is available.

If I have other malpractice in place, which gets used first?

This is designed as a supplemental policy, so your personal malpractice coverage is primary.

If I don’t have other malpractice coverage, or I find out my insurer does not cover combat sporting events, will this policy cover me?

Yes.

What if I get certified mid-way through the year, do I get a rebate?

No, the discounted price will start during your next membership cycle.

I am not a physician, can I participate?

No, It is designed only for physicians acting within their scope of practice.

Does it cover procedures like suturing or joint reduction?

Yes, as long as they are within your usual scope of practice and training.

Does it cover me if I see a patient in my private office before or after an event I covered?

No, It is only for ringside/cage side duties.

Does it cover me if I do pre-fight physicals at weigh-ins the day before the event?

Yes.
