ARP Award Banquet Guest Speaker: Samuel Collins III
Join your ARP colleagues for the ARP Award Banquet on Saturday, May 4, 2019, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The banquet will include a ticket to a cocktail reception from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the dinner event, and the award ceremony, including the induction of ARP’s latest emeritus Board members and featured guest speaker, Samuel Collins III.
Collins will be speaking about heavyweight boxing champion and Galveston, Texas, native Jack Johnson. Johnson was one of the most famous African-Americans in the world at the height of the Jim Crow era. Beyond his undisputed boxing prowess, Johnson's legacy had been tainted by a racially motivated criminal conviction. Given recent headlines of Johnson's posthumous Presidential pardon, Collins will share the backstory on the life, career, and legend of the Galveston Giant Jack Johnson.
